Overview
The Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) is Singapore’s national association for company directors. Formed in 1998, its mission is to uplift the directorship profession and champion good governance. Its membership comprises board directors, company leaders, and professionals with an interest in corporate governance. A Governing Council guides the direction and work of the organisation, and SID Committees comprise industry professionals, academics and corporate governance experts.
SID provides a comprehensive training curriculum that covers the spectrum of professional developmental needs of directors including the Listed Entity Director programme for newly-appointed directors and the Governance for Outstanding Organisation Directors programme for directors of nonprofit boards. The organisation supports directors on their directorship journey with courses, workshops, advanced masterclassess, forum discussions and classroom pit-stops. Aspiring and new directors, as well as experienced board members and chairs of boards and committees, will are also invited to our sharing and social sessions that enable networking in more casual settings.
In its advocacy for good governance, SID curates thought leadership and benchmarking research and indices on corporate governance and directorship issues, and provides a one-stop information resource on governance-related matters. It connects the director community via initiatives such as mentoring and networking, and provides a range of services for boards including board appointments, board listings and board evaluations.
To encourage excellence in corporate governance, SID is a co-organiser of the Singapore Corporate Awards, including the Best Managed Board, Best Risk Management, Best Chief Executive Officer and Best Investor Relations. SID collaborates with the NUS Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) to produce the Singapore rankings for the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard, and together with CGS and CPA Australia, produces the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index.
